RINEA Mobility Grants Scheme: Networking Opportunities for African Stakeholders at Brokerage Events in Europe – First Results

The RINEA mobility grant scheme, conducted by FORTH/PRAXI Network and JyU/UniPID, was successfully concluded in June 2016.

The specific funding scheme was designed to facilitate the participation of researchers, entrepreneurs, innovators, and other relevant R&I stakeholders in networking and brokerage events organised at the sidelines of large Conferences held in Europe.

The funding scheme was addressed to applicants representing SMEs, universities, research institutions and other R&I organisations based in African countries, active in priority Food Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA) and related fields.

Successful applicants received financial support and participated in one of the following brokerage events:

In total 201 applications were received from 25 African countries. Out of these, 22 were selected for funding from 11 African countries. Due to constraints outside the control of the organizers, 12 grantees from 7 African countries managed to travel to the aforementioned matchmaking and brokerage events.

All the grantees have been requested to produce a short report with the main outcomes from their participation in these events, as well as their evaluation of the RINEA grant scheme. Based on these reports, as well as a follow-up in 6 months’ time, an overall assessment will be made of the grant scheme and the concrete results it produced in terms of new R&I collaborations.
